People For Action is trying to revive the artwork of Tanjore with the support of trafficking survivors. These survivors have created a niche for themselves in an art skill that can help them become economically independent. Thanjavur painting is a classical South Indian painting style. The characteristics of Tanjore paintings are their brilliant colour schemes, decorative jewellery with stones and cut glasses, and remarkable gold leaf work. The liberal use of gold leaf and precious and semi-precious stones presents a splendid visual treat.
Common themes in Tanjore paintings include Bal Krishna, Lord Rama, as well as other gods, goddesses, saints and subjects from Hindu mythology.
The sale proceeds of the paintings go back into the corpus fund to support and strengthen the livelihoods of these underprivileged women.
